About
Katie is currently a Postdoctoral Research Associate in laboratory of Dr. Yves Boisclair; Department of Animal Science at Cornell University. She completed her PhD degree under the supervision of Dr. Thomas Overton. Katie's research interests include transition dairy cattle nutrition and metabolism and the specific role of insulin resistance and other metabolic signals during this time. Katie also works on a grant-funded Animal Industry Career Path Project through Cornell Cooperative Extension, and has worked as a private consultant in the animal health industry.
Originally from Rome, NY, Katie attended the Animal Science department at Cornell University and earned her B.S. in 2003. Upon leaving Ithaca, Katie conducted research at the Smithsonian Institution National Zoological Park in Washington, D.C. in the area of desert tortoise nutrition and conservation. Following her work at the National Zoo, Katie was a Faculty Research Assistant at the University of Maryland Department of Animal Science where she studied the efficiency of Ca and P use by poultry. Katie then pursued a Masters Degree at the University of Maryland. Her work on control of the metabolic pathways that regulate milk protein synthesis in the mammary gland of lactating mice earned her the 2007 Society for Nutrition Energy and Macronutrient Metabolism RIS Abstract Award.
Katie's interests outside of the research laboratory include teaching and mentoring, horses and riding, and Cornell hockey. Additionally, she has experience in the field of intellectual property in a life-sciences setting as a Technology Assistant Intern at Cornell University's Center for Technology Enterprise and Commercialization.
