About
Melanie A. Soberon is a PhD candidate in Animal Science at Cornell University, studying under the direction of D.J.R. Cherney. Her research interests include the scholarship of teaching and learning as well as the effects of feed compounds on the flavor and quality of milk in ruminants. Melanie spent her childhood working with farm animals on the family's hobby farm, raising sheep, horses, chickens, dairy steers, and the occasional hog. During high school, her family expanded the flock from 36 to 550 ewes and she became integrally involved in the management of the flock. In 2005, Melanie earned her B.S. in Animal Science with a business emphasis as well as a degree in Life Science Communications at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She went on to study Sheep Nutrition under the direction of M.L. Thonney at Cornell University, earning her M.S. in Animal Science in August 2007. She expects to complete her dissertation work in 2011.
